Don Julio Tequila | Día de los Muertos
Animation Design Systems & Creative Ad Design | Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest
For Don Julio’s Día de los Muertos campaign, I led the creation of a scalable animation design system, translating static cocktail photography and illustrations into modular, culturally resonant motion assets for Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest. This system enabled seamless recipe integrations, extended campaign longevity, and high engagement, while reinforcing Don Julio’s identity as a visually expressive, culturally grounded, and socially relevant tequila brand.
CAMPAIGN CONTEXT
Don Julio’s Día de los Muertos campaign celebrated heritage and craft, amplifying the tagline “For Those Who Know.” The goal was to honor cultural tradition while driving engagement across social platforms using motion design, creative ad systems, and visually rich storytelling. My role was to transform static cocktail photography and illustrations into scalable, culturally authentic animated assets across Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest.
CREATIVE VISION & ANIMATION SYSTEMS
Modular Motion Framework: Animated photography and illustrations with looping, reusable sequences for cocktail recipes.
Cultural Motifs: Calaveras, marigolds, and flowing linework evoked Día de los Muertos vibrancy.
Liquid & Garnish Motion: Pouring tequila, swirling smoke, and citrus twists added visual delight and recipe context.
Typography in Motion: Recipe text animated for clarity, engagement, and platform best practices.
Platform-Specific Execution: Stories, Reels, Feed placements, and Pinterest Idea Pins designed for native interaction, looping, and extended dwell time.
#EasilyDon Animated Cocktail
The campaign centerpiece, #EasilyDon, established the template for all subsequent assets:
Photography & Illustration Prep: Retouched and layered static assets for motion integration.
Animation & Motion Design: Developed pour sequences, petal swirls, smoke effects, and looping accent motifs.
Recipe Integration: Modular system enabled swapping ingredients, cocktail elements, and copy without rebuilding animations.
Scalable & Reusable: Created Don Julio’s first animated cocktail posts for Día de los Muertos, setting a framework for future campaigns.
PLATFORM-SPECIFIC EXECUTION
Instagram & Facebook: Stories (9:16), Reels (15–30s), Feed posts with seamless loops and CTA engagement.
Pinterest: Scroll-triggered animations, Story & Idea Pins, and carousel recipe boards for native social sharing.
